- Who: Jer, Sally, Unborn Cluchey Baby (UCB), Dan

- Where: Mt. Pleasant
- What: Plato Tipico (fried plantains, beans, egg, tomato, onion, avocado, ranchero sauce, sour cream) and giant cinnamon roll for the table
Seeing as how our good friends Sally and Jer are going to be star characters in the upcoming cinematic debut of BRUNCH: THE MOVIE, it only makes sense to introduce the newest member of the cast: Unborn Cluchey Baby! Unbeknown to us at the time, Unborn Cluchey Baby (UCB) has actually been an attendee at a number of previous brunches, so he/she has already had a lot of time to study his/her lines. “Another bloody, please!” “Can I get that with feta instead of cheddar?” “Man, I had a rough night last night—didn’t get to bed til at least 3am!”
So as UCB’s first official trip out for eggs and coffee with the crew, we decided to let him/her call the shots and be our fearless leader for Sunday’s brunch.
One thing we already know about UCB is that he/she likes eating local. Why have something processed or packaged when you can have fresh, organic ingredients prepared in front of you by a real live small business just down the street? UCB made a great choice by taking us to Dos Gringos, a cute, little, or
der-at-the-counter spot in Jer and Sally’s neighborhood where the owner talks to you when you walk in and you can see your breakfast being made by a team of tiny, short order cook-ettes in the open kitchen just behind her. And you wonder why you call them short order!!! [UCB also really likes dad jokes]. Knowing his/her stuff, UCB suggested that we get a table inside, rather than sit out in the heat, which was a good idea since Dos Gringos provided some pre
tty excellent people watching opportunities.
Next, UCB took charge with our food. He/she gave us a great tip that we should all split a huge delicious warm frosted cinnamon roll before our meal came. Let me tell you—when UCB has a craving, you better stand out of the way because there is no point in even pretending to say no! UCB was spot on with his/her pick, though, because that was one hell of an amazing pre-brunch dessert.
Finally, when we were all finished eating, it was UCB who told us th
at the best way to bask in the flavors of our brunch was through some relaxing on the couch back at the Clucheys. Great plan, UCB! Wish we’d thought of that ourselves! Clearly, he/she was also looking out for Brother Wingo, who was at home missing his buddies and needing some company. Now if that’s not the sign of a good younger sibling, I don’t know what is. UCB, we’re happy to have you join us any time—or at least until December 15thish ;)
